Andrew Smith

Biography

Dr. Andrew J. Smith is an Executive Vice President and the Chief Medical Executive of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario. In addition, he is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He completed medical school, including a Masters of Science, and General Surgery residency at the University of Toronto. He also completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Upon returning to Canada, he established himself as a leader in the management of colorectal cancer. He has served as Head of the Division of General Surgery at Sunnybrook, Chair of the Division of General Surgery at the University of Toronto and Chief of the Odette Cancer Program and Regional Vice President for Cancer Care Ontario. He has been involved for many years in quality improvement initiatives in Ontario and is passionately interested in healthcare leadership and the evolution of the healthcare system in Canada.
