Biography

Andy Shaughnessy, B.Sc. (Queen’s) 1987, LL.B. (Queen’s) 1991, called to the bar of Ontario 1993. Andy is a partner in Torys' Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution, and Federal Court practice. Andy has represented a wide variety of clients in complex patent and trademark infringement and related litigation. He has been an advocate before the Federal Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and specialized tribunals such as the Trade-marks Opposition Board. He has also been involved in proceedings in the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. Andy is a well-known speaker and author in Canada: he serves on the editorial board of the Commercial Litigation Review and is a co-author of the Canadian Patent Act Annotated. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto School of Law, where he oversees the school’s participation in the Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot.
