Behnam Safa
Assistant Professor
Department of Anesthesia
University of Toronto
Canada
Biography
Dr. Safa's research is focused on comparing the postoperative functional recovery and analgesic efficacy of a single-shot sciatic nerve block versus the posterior capsule/fat pad infiltration of local anesthetic for total knee arthroplasty. Studies have supported the use of femoral nerve block for analgesia and improved functional outcome after total knee arthroplasty. The purpose of Dr. Safa’s study is to see if the same is true for sciatic nerve block for the back of the knee. This study will also look at an alternative approach to make the back of the knee pain-free, which involves injecting local anesthesia directly into the posterior capsule at the end of surgery. Currently he is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Toronto.
