Biography

David K. Seitz received his PhD from the University of Toronto in human geography and women and gender studies. As a community journalist, activist, and urban cultural geographer, he has long been engaged with the relationships between faith, race, trans/nation, sexuality, spaces of belonging, and citizenship. Research Interest

David’s dissertation research explored the role of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (MCCT) in Canadian progressive politics. While conventional political discourse holds that sex, religion and politics don’t mix, the predominantly queer MCCT has played key roles in political struggles ranging from same-sex marriage to transgender rights to immigration reform to international human rights. David’s community-based research explores how faith spaces and multiscalar faith-based activism can not only nurture queer communities, but critically inform progressive political change much more broadly.
