Biography
Dr. Bassani is an epidemiologist at the Hospital for Sick Children and an assistant professor with the Department of Paediatrics and with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. He received M.Sc and PhD in Epidemiology from the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Brazil and has conducted research on the causes and distribution of child deaths in India, identification of risk factors for child mortality and impact of policy changes on child health, survival and development. Dr. Bassani currently works in international projects in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology with projects in India, Uganda, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kenya, Brazil and Malawi. Since 2007 he has been a core member of the Child Health and Epidemiology Reference Group (CHERG), responsible for the Global estimates of the causes of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Deaths.
