Biography

Duncan W. Glaholt, B.A. (Manitoba) 1973, J.D. (Toronto) 1977, C. Arb. 2010 was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1979. He is a founding partner of the internationally recognized construction law firm Glaholt LLP, specializing in the litigation, arbitration and mediation of construction claims and disputes. A recognized authority in Canadian construction law, and certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Construction Law, he has acted as lead counsel in the litigation and arbitration of many large infrastructure, industrial, commercial and institutional project disputes throughout Canada. He is the author of numerous texts and articles dealing with various aspects of construction law and co-author of the current 7th edition of the nationally recognized treatise Construction, Builders’ and Mechanics’ Liens in Canada. He is the co-author of the Annotated Ontario Construction Lien Act, now in its 21st annual edition; the author of Conduct of a Lien Action, now in its 18th annual edition; and the author of Conduct of a Trust Action, 2011. Mr. Glaholt is a co-author of the Halsbury’s Laws of Canada volumes on Construction (2008, 2013 and 2017) and Alternative Dispute Resolution (2009, 2014) and The Law of ADR in Canada: an Introductory Guide (2011), as well as many scholarly conference papers and journal articles. Mr. Glaholt is a Founding Fellow and Past-President of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and originated and edited the Journal of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers from 2006 through 2011. Mr. Glaholt is a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers and a Founding Fellow of the International Academy of Construction Lawyers.
