Edward Hickey

Biography

Dr. Edward Hickey has joined the Division of Cardiac Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hickey holds a Bachelor of Medicine degree from the University of Southampton, UK (1999), followed by his residency program in General Surgery, which he completed in 2003 at the same university. During 2003- 2005 he pursued higher surgical training in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Concurrently, he obtained his Doctorate of Medicine Research Thesis from Oregon Health Sciences University, US and from the University of Southampton. Later, he received the John Kirklin Fellowship from the Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society, University of Toronto and spent two years (2006-2008) at the Hospital for Sick Children. Subsequently, he pursued residency training in Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Toronto (2008-2010), followed by a clinical fellowship in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Hickey has also won numerous awards, among which the most recent ones are: Zane Cohen Fellowship Award 2011 from the Department of Surgery, the University of Toronto Postgraduate Leadership Award 2010, and the Richard Rowe Award both in 2008 and 2007 at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, Young Investigator Award 2008 from Children’s Heart Foundation, Chicago.
