Erin Kennedy

Biography

After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education from McMaster University, Erin Kennedy received her Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1995. She then entered the Gallie Programme in Surgery at the University of Toronto. During her training in General Surgery at U of T, she entered the Surgeon-Scientist Program and was completed her PhD in Clinical Epidemiology in 2002. Dr. Kennedy became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2004 and then completed a two-year fellowship in Surgical Oncology, also at the University of Toronto. She joined the Faculty in the Division of General Surgery at the University Health Network in 2005, and was cross-appointed to the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. Dr. Kennedy’s clinical interests are in the area of surgical oncology, particularly colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers. She is internationally recognized for her research in Patient-Centered Care and Shared Decision Making in Surgery. Her additional research interests include Quality of Life and Cancer Survivorship. Erin holds several peer-reviewed research grants from funding agencies such as Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) and Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). Dr. Kennedy is a Staff Surgeon, Division of General Surgery, University Health Network, and an Assistant Professor of General Surgery and Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto.
