Biography
Ashvin Goel received the Bachelors degree in computer science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1992, the masters degree from UCLA and the Ph.D. degree in computer science and engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute, Portland in 2003, where his research focused on providing system support for interactive media-streaming applications. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Toronto in 2003 as an Assistant Professor, where he is now an associate professor since 2009. Dr. Goel’s research interests are in the general area of operating systems, focusing on tolerating bugs and vulnerabilities in software to improve the reliability and security of software systems. Dr. Goel has published in prestigious systems conferences such as SOSP, OSDI, ASPLOS, FAST and Usenix Security. He is the recipient of the 2008 Ontario Early Researcher Award (ERA), and the 2011 Google Faculty Award. Dr. Goel has worked at HP Labs on middleware for seamless computing and at Oracle Corporation on optimistically replicated databases. Dr. Goel is a member of ACM, USENIX and IEEE.
