Biography
Dr. Sun received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Calgary, his M.Sc. in Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Alberta, and his M.D. from ZhongShan Medical College of Sun Yet-Sen University. After his postdoctoral training in the Toronto Western Hospital Research Institute, he joined the Department of Surgery, Division of Anatomy in 2010 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Sun’s research is mainly focused on studying the role of ion channels in neuroprotection against cerebral ischemia and stroke, and identifying potential therapeutic targets for stroke.

- Cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying ischemia, stroke and neurodegenerative diseases - Ion channels in cytoprotection against cerebral and cardiac ischemia - Neuronal injury and regeneration, as well as development of therapeutic agents for stroke
