Biography
Dr. Jackie Gardner-Nix is an associate physician with a focused practice in chronic pain. She established the Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management (MBCPM) program, now trademarked, and extending across Ontario and beyond. The MBCPMTM program is based on the renowned Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program founded in the USA three decades ago. Since 2002, she extended MBCPMTM courses to more than 12,000 patients suffering chronic pain across Ontario using the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) (www.NeuroNovaCentre.com). She founded the NeuroNova Centre for Mindfulness-Based Chronic Pain Management Inc (NNC) in 2010, through which she trains and mentors other health care professionals to deliver the curricula of the courses. She also established a certification for facilitators to ensure quality control. She co-wrote the course book: The Mindfulness Solution to Pain, published by New Harbinger Publications in 2009, and has written and narrated the meditations available on CDs and as downloads for the courses. She has co-written workbooks for the courses and established additional courses and a maintenance class for alumni. She has co-written research publications on the outcomes of the course, which is as useful for stress as for chronic pain, and has data which shows reduction in medication use. The courses are gradually spreading to communities across the world and into the corporate sector.
