Biography
Jay Pooley is a Toronto-based architect, art director and journeyman carpenter. His work reflects the lineage of critical regionalism with an interest in the relationship of scenography to contemporary architectural design. Born and raised outside Stratford, Ontario and educated in Halifax, Los Angeles and New York City. Mentors include Brian MacKay-Lyons, Barton Myers, Tod Williams and Billie Tsien. Jay completed a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies followed by a Master of Architecture, both at Dalhousie University where he received the Governor’s Medal. Currently in private practice, Jay works with numerous clients including The Drake Hotel, TBD Toronto, BravoFact, Blanc de Chine, Willowbank School, The Canadian Stage Company and most recently the visual artist Steven Beckly.
Research Interest
His work reflects the lineage of critical regionalism with an interest in the relationship of scenography to contemporary architectural design.
