Biography
Dr. Oyston has a special interest in anesthesia and the internet, including many publications and presentations related to the use of the internet by anesthesiologists. He has participated in an international collaboration through writing chapters for The Virtual Textbook of Anesthesiology and by participation in GASNet in addition to reviewing web sites for “Anesthesiology”. Dr. Oyston’s research interests also include smoking cessation and he has given several presentations including The Ottawa Model Conference and an editorial in Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. The perioperative period is an ideal time to stop smoking, as there are significant benefits in wound healing and prevention of infection when patients quit before or immediately after surgery. Outreach for Dr. Oyston includes the delivery of anesthesia in developing countries, where he taught anesthesia in Rwanda with CASIEF and in Ethiopia with the University of Toronto’s Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration.
