Biography
I studied Psychology, Feminist Studies and Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and was interested in doing research that had a real impact in the community, particularly for youth. I was introduced to arts-based approaches to research by Claudia Mitchell, McGill University, who is a leader in the field of visual arts. Alternative forms of knowledge production are a real fit with my current work in Women and Gender Studies and Equity Studies; disciplines that challenge traditional research models that privilege Eurocentric models of education. Through photovoice, collage, videography, and performance I have discovered new and exciting ways to engage youth in socially transformative research that has significance for their everyday lives.
