Research Interest
My research interests revolve around the prediction, prevention and treatment of abuse in intimate and family relationships. In particular, I have expertise in addressing violence perpetration in men and fathers. We are currently engage in intervention research on the efficacy of both mother and father-focused parenting interventions for preventing recurrent maltreatment in high risk families, developing and evaluating group programs for men who are abusive towards their children and their intimate partners, and exploring justice-linked programs for men who have perpetrated domestic violence-related offences. We are also analyzing data from longitudinal studies to explore patterns resilience and vulnerability associated with the development and cessation of abuse in family relationships. For more information on my research and on the activities of my lab, please access the scottlab website (link above). Applied/Clinical Interests: I spend part of my time engaged in clinical work with children and adolescents with a variety of internalizing and externalizing disorders and with adults who are victims or perpetrators of abuse. This clinical work complements my research on breaking the cycle of abusive behaviour.
