Biography
Dr. Manu Ondhia was a staff anesthesiologist at Sunnybrook hospital for over thirty years. He was born in Gujarat, a small Village in India and migrated to Uganda at the age of one, where he spent the remainder of his childhood. After graduating from high school, Dr. Ondhia migrated to England where he studied medicine at the University of Leeds. Upon completion of his undergraduate medical education in 1965, Dr. Ondhia decided to return to Uganda where he practiced Tropical medicine for five years. He then migrated back to England where he decided to begin his postgraduate medical training in anesthesiology. The last three years of his residency were completed in Toronto. Following residency training, Dr. Ondhia completed a fellowship in trauma anesthesia and became one of the first three fellows to work in the trauma ICU at Sunnybrook. He was one of the three founders of the Sunnybrook trauma airlift program, and personally trained several of the paramedics involved in this program. He has also taught dentistry residents on the safe administration of intravenous sedation to patients undergoing dental surgeries. He was also a member of the CPR committee for 23 years. Although he is now retired from his full-time position, Dr. Ondhia still works with patients for endoscopies on a part-time basis. Overall, Dr. Ondhia has had an amazing, diverse career which has spanned three continents and has impacted the lives of a countless number of students and patients.
