Biography
Maryam obtained a PhD in neuroscience from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2007. She completed postdoctoral studies with Dr. Milos Pekny at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and Dr. Andras Nagy at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Anatomy at the University of Toronto. Her research focus is focused on astrocytes. Specifically, she is interested in understanding the heterogeneity of astrocytes, their roles in the injured/diseased brain and how this knowledge can impact future therapeutic interventions.
