Biography

Matthew Kronby, B.A. (Hon.) (McGill) 1984, LL.B. (Toronto) 1988, called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990 and New York in 2000, is a partner at Bennett Jones LLP. His practice is devoted to international trade and investment, and foreign business transactions and compliance. He represents clients in matters relating to trade agreements such as the WTO Agreement and the NAFTA, bilateral investment treaties, trade remedies, export controls and sanctions, and foreign corrupt practices. Before joining Bennett Jones he served for more than 15 years in the Government of Canada's Trade Law Bureau, including as its Director General from 2009 to 2012. He has led numerous legal teams in dispute settlement at the WTO and under the Softwood Lumber Agreement, investor-state arbitrations under the NAFTA and in trade and investment treaty negotiations with the European Union (CETA), Colombia, Peru and Singapore.
