Biography
Philip M. Sherman, MD, FRCPC is Professor of Paediatrics, Microbiology (LMP), Nutritional Sciences, and Dentistry at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto where he has been on faculty since 1984. Dr. Sherman completed medical school at the University of Calgary and training in pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco. His training in gastroenterology and research was completed at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC. Sherman is a Past-President of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and a Past-President of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG). He is the recipient of a Canada Research Chair (tier 1) in Gastrointestinal Disease (2001-2022), and his research program is funded currently by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Dr. Sherman is Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Diabetes. Philip M. Research Interest
Our research activities focus on discovering novel methods to prevent and treat intestinal injury in humans and enhance the quality-of-life and health of Canadians.
