Ron Charach

Biography

Ron Charach is a poet, essayist and practicing psychiatrist. His recent debut novel is called cabana the big, and was published in Sept 2016 by Tightrope Press of Toronto. The same press will publish his next collection of poems, Prosopagnosia, this coming spring. His poems are featured in the world anthologies of physician poetry published by the University of Iowa Press, Blood and Bone and Primary Care. He edited the sole anthology of Canadian physician poetry, The Naked Physician in 1990. In 2003, his book Dungenessque won the Canadian Jewish Book Award for poetry. His book, Forgetting the Holocaust, was published in March of 2011 by Frontenac House. He has lectured in both Canada and the United States on creativity. For sixteen years he hosted a column on medicine and poetry in The Medical Post, where he showcased the work of other physician/poets. His books are featured in the New York University website on the medical humanities and his poems are taught in several medical humanities programs. He may be best known for his many letters to Canadian and American newspapers, often on the subject of public safety.
