Sandra De Montbrun

Biography

Dr. Sandra de Montbrun obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo followed by her medical degree at the University of Toronto. She completed her residency in General Surgery at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Following this, she returned to Toronto to complete a clinical fellowship in colorectal surgery and a Masters in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Sandra’s research interest and academic focus lie in the assessment of technical competence and the evaluation of advanced technical skill. Sandra has been working with both the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery to develop an objective structured assessment of technical skill for colorectal graduates. This summative assessment is currently being further developed and evaluated, with the plans of incorporating the exam into the colorectal board certification process. Sandra has joined the Division of General Surgery at St. Michael’s hospital with a clinical interest in colorectal oncology, and has been appointed to the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor and Surgeon Scientist.
