Biography

Susan J. Heakes, B.A. (Carleton), LLB (Queens) was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984. Ms. Heakes clerked with the Court of Appeal in 1985. Ms. Heakes is Discipline Counsel with the Law Society of Upper Canada. She was for many years a partner of Heenan Blaikie LLP, practising personal wealth and commercial litigation, including estate litigation and family law (property issues only). She has appeared at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Ms. Heakes is frequently counsel in arbitrations and mediations. Ms. Heakes has taught Advanced Civil Procedure at the University of Toronto Law School and at Queen’s University Law School, and Trial Advocacy at Queen’s University Law School and at the Osgoode Hall Law School.
