Wahid, Aida Sijamic

Biography

Aida Sijamic Wahid joined University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor of Accounting in 2012 after completing her DBA from Harvard Business School. She also earned Bachelor's degree in Economics from Brandeis University in 2001, and Master's degree in International Economics & Finance from Brandeis University, Brandeis International Business School, in 2002. Aida has held an active reporting Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in the state of Massachusetts since 2005. Prior to academia, Aida was an Experienced Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She worked in Consumer and Industrial Products and Services (CIPS) line of the assurance practice in firm's Boston office. During the employment at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Aida completed two rotations at PwC's Healthcare Research Institute, working as a research analyst, exploring global healthcare issues. Aida also worked as a Finance Manager & Treasurer at Celent, research and consulting firm focused on information technology issues in financial services industry. Research Interest

Aida has been focusing her research on issues in corporate governance and accounting quality. Aida is interested in the role of external and internal governance mechanisms, such as board of directors, audit committees, auditors, active investors and regulators, in financial reporting quality and firm decision outcomes. Her research agenda is focused on understanding how and under what conditions these and other monitoring mechanisms, alone or combined, alleviate the agency problem and lead to the best financial reporting and firm performance outcomes, especially in the international setting.
