Research Interest
My primary scientific interest concerns determining the computational function of a brain area called anterior cingulate cortex. Together with colleagues, I have proposed that anterior cingulate cortex selects and sustains extended sequences of effortful behaviour – for example, how we decide to jog up a steep mountain and then actually follow through with it. To get at this issue I follow a "converging methods" approach involving electroencephalography, functional magnetic resonance imaging, and computational modelling.
