Biography
Since becoming a Lecturer in 2011, Heidi Engelhardt’s focus has been on undergraduate teaching in the areas of physiology and cell biology. Her research background is in physiology, with emphasis on female reproduction. Her past research has investigated ovarian function, pregnancy and the dialogue between the developing fetus and its mother. Dr. Engelhardt brings to her teaching perspectives on physiology in the contexts of human and veterinary medicine, agriculture, and evolutionary adaptations of animals in natural environments. PhD Physiology, University of Western Ontario,1992. Ontario Veterinary College Research Fellowship, 1995-1997. J.A.F. Stevenson Memorial Scholarship, 1990. As a Lecturer, Dr. Engelhardt no longer maintains a research program. However, she participates in collaborative research, serves on graduate advisory and examination committees, and provides peer review for several journals and academic publishers. In both teaching and research, Dr. Engelhardt asks questions at the cellular and molecular level to understand the physiology of the whole animal.
