Biography
Jan Huissoon is the Chair of the Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering department as well as a Professor at the University of Waterloo. He founded Canada’s first Mechatronics Engineering program. His projects include Dynamic Seam Tracking for Robotic Welding, Automatic end-of-arm and tool-centre-point calibration, Autonomous Navigation Using Artificial Neural Networks, Arc Acoustics in GMA welding, Walking Wobot Welder, Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal Modeling of Human Locomotion, Integrated Robot Systems, Sensor Based Control, Modelling and Control of Arc Welding Processes, Intelligent Sensing Systems (Ultrasonic, vision), and Autonomous Vehicle Guidance & Control. In addition, Professor Huissoon is the sole holder of the patent – Method and device for robot tool frame calibration. Professor Huissoon’s research is based on mechatronic design, sensor based robot control, robotic welding, airborne sonar, and autonomous vehicle control.
