Biography
Dr. Jeong-Bon Kim joined the School of Accounting and Finance faculty in the summer of 2015 as Professor and J. Page R. Wadsworth Chair in Accounting and Finance. Dr. Kim has been an Honored Professor at the School of Management, Fudan University (Shanghai) since 2011, and has recently invited and served as Distinguished Professor at the Institute of International Business and Governance, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, The Open University of Hong Kong since January 2016. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo faculty, Dr. Kim worked as Chair Professor of Accountancy with concurrent appointment as the Head of the Department of Accountancy for six years at City University of Hong Kong. He also worked as Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance at John Molson School of Business (JMSB), Concordia University. Dr. Kim worked for many years at the School of Accounting and Finance, the Faculty of Business, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he was the Head for the (then) Department of Accountancy, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Programs and Research) for the Faculty of Business, with a concurrent appointment as Acting Head for the School of Accounting and Finance. Dr. Kim began his full-time teaching career as an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Syracuse University, New York. He also taught at Seoul National University on a visiting basis. He served as Vice President-at-large of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research and as a member of the Hong Kong Academic Accounting Association. Dr. Kim have published over 80 refereed journal articles in leading academic journals in accounting and finance, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies; and Journal of International Business Studies. He is widely known as one of pioneer researchers on the determinants and consequences of stock price crash risk. He supervised many Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows who are currently teaching at business schools in major universities in Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Norway.
