Biography
Professor Patrice Couture is working as a Professor in the University of Watrloo. He completed his Administrative Duties as Ecotoxicology Professor. The work of Professor Couture and his team focuses on the effects of metals and other stressors (anthropogenic or natural) on the physiological condition of aquatic animals, particularly freshwater fish. Much of his recent research activities focused on yellow perch ( Perca flavescens) of the metal gradients of Sudbury, Ontario and Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, both known for their significant mining and metallurgical activities. These study areas provide unique outdoor laboratories for research on potentially hazardous metals such as copper, cadmium, zinc and nickel. Whether they study yellow perch, eel or ball head, these studies use a variety of biochemical, physiological and genomic tools to examine the toxicity mechanisms of contaminants on their health.
