Vijay Parsa

Associate Professor
Department of Computer Engineering
University of Western Ontario
Canada

Biography

"Vijay Parsa received his B.Eng. degree from the Osmania University, India in 1989 and his M.E.Sc. degree from the University of New Brunswick, Canada in 1992. Dr. Parsa earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick where he developed novel methods for mitigating interference in evoked potential recordings. He joined the Hearing Health Care Research Unit (HHCRU) in 1996 as a Post-doctoral fellow where he received the Shaw Memorial Postdoctoral award from the Canadian Acoustics Association for his work on advanced electroacoustic measurements of hearing aid performance. He continued to work at the HHCRU as a Research Engineer developing speech and audio processing algorithms for Audiology and Speech Language Pathology applications. In July 2002, he was appointed as the Oticon Foundation’s Chair in Acoustic Signal Processing, a joint position between the Faculties of Health Sciences and Engineering, to conduct interdisciplinary research on acoustic signal processing with applications in Audiology."

Research Interest

Biomedical Systems, Microsystems & DSP (Speech and audio signal processing with applications to hearing aids, assistive listening devices and augmentative communication devices; speech production and perception; microphone array processing)
