Biography
Dr. Réjean Bouchard worked as a lobbyist representing the technical interests of Canadian dairy farmers. From 1995 to 2015, he was responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of international standards for dairy products were consistent with Canadian regulations. His responsibilities extended to standards related to animal health, animal welfare and with dairy production standards aimed at ensuring the multiple aspects of dairy products safety. Previously, from 1972 to 1995, Dr. Bouchard worked for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a research scientist in dairy nutrition and as manager of different programs supporting international marketing. He was responsible for international programs involving the dairy industry in Mexico, Poland and China.
Research Interest
Dr. Bouchard completed undergraduate studies at Université Laval where he studied animal science. He obtained a master degree in animal nutrition and then he graduated with a PhD in dairy nutrition from The Ohio State University. His research led to the determination of the sulfur requirements for lactating dairy cows, findings that are used worldwide in feed formulation. He was also involved in the development of new feeding systems for raising male dairy calves and heifers.
