Boland has become the homegrown face of a movement born in the United States, where an emboldened breed of activist investor has shaken up the corporate establishment. The democratization of corporate Canada is long overdue, Boland says. “Investor activism is a shareholder right; it’s only newsworthy because investors were quite lazy for so long,” he says.
