Biography
He is a sociologist of religion. He currently occupy the CIGI Chair in Religion and Politics in Global Context at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and Wilfrid Laurier University. He is also a professor of sociology on the post-graduate programme in sociology at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil. He previously taught at several universities in Brazil. His PhD (in social science) was from the University of Campinas, Brazil. He obtained a MA (in Latin American Studies) from the University of Liverpool and a BA (in History and Anthropology) from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge.
