Biography
Dr. Richards rejoined the staff of UCCI in 2009 as an associate professor having previously served as lecturer and head of accounting. He now serves as chair of the Business Studies department. Prior to rejoining UCCI, he owned and operated an institution which prepared students for the Certified Public Accountant examinations. He also served as associate professor and Chair of the Business Administration Department at Northern Caribbean University, accountant/assistant project manager in the life insurance industry, and financial controller of a NGO. A Jamaica Flour Mills scholar, Dr. Richards attended the University of the West Indies where he earned a BSc in Accounting with first class honours and a MSc in Accounting with distinction, graduating top of his class. He also attended Andrews University, where he earned a PhD in Education with specialization in curriculum and instruction. In addition, Dr. Richards has the following professional designations: Fellow, Life Management Institute, with distinction (top student in Jamaica) and the Certified Public Accountant certification. He has taught at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels in the fields of Accounting, Management, Economics, Business Law, and Mathematics. In addition, he has prepared a manual on Jamaican Taxation which has been used by university students. His professional affiliations include being a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica, and an associate of the Jamaica Institute of Management. Dr. Richards believes in using his expertise to help students maximize their potential and is always willing to spend time to guide his students.
