Biography
Prof. Jones, currently the longest-serving member of UCCI team, joined in 1988. As Chair of his department, he oversees the development and delivery of Technical/Vocational and Continuing Education programmes. After serving an industrial apprenticeship with Steel Company of Wales, Mr. Jones obtained an honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wales. He gained experience with the Central Electricity Generating Board and Rio Tinto Zinc Corporation before joining British Steel Corporation as Electrical Engineer, Hot Rolling Mills. He entered tertiary education, at Southgate Technical College, London, before moving to Pembrokeshire Technical College, West Wales, to set up pre-apprenticeship programs in Electrical Installations and Electronics. Recruited by Overseas Development Administration (UK) to develop Technician Education at Botswana Polytechnic, Gaborone, Southern Africa, he held the post of Head of Electrical Engineering and also served as Vice Principal. In 1986 he was awarded an ODA scholarship to read for a Master’s Degree in Electronics at the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. Mr. Jones is a member of the Institute of Engineering & Technology and is a Chartered Electrical Engineer.
