Cai Yongping

Biography

Yongping Cai, Ph D., is the professor of AHAU and doctoral supervisor. The executive vice president of college of Life Science, academic and technical leaders in Anhui Province, famous teacher of Anhui Province and the head of the Cell biology doctoral degree. In addition, Professor Cai are the vice chief expert in Modern industrial technology system for Sericultural and Chinses herbal medicines in Anhui Province and chief expert of Chinese herbal medicine industry in modern agriculture industry alliance in JinZhai County. And also, Professor Cai are evaluation experts of national natural fund and the award of national science and technology, the editor of “Research on Biology Teaching in Colleges and Universities” and “Subtropical Plant Science”. She concurrently as Secretary General of the Genetics Society, and Director of China Agricultural Biotechnology Society. Professor Cai engaged in three aspects of scientific research work for many years, such as Plant Cell Engineering, Secondary Metabolism and Genetic Breeding. The major works are to study on tissue culture and active components of Chinese herbal medicine, cultivation physiology and cultivation techniques of Chinese herbal medicine, variety selection and genetic breeding of Chinese herbal medicine. The aim of research is to find the unique resources of medicinal plants in Anhui according to the unique natural medicine resources in Anhui and to develop and to utilize the medical resources by metabolic engineering, cell engineering, and molecular marker-assisted selection, etc. Moreover, the recent research works focus on pear lignin metabolism and stone cell formation mechanism; studies on secondary metabolism and functional genes of Dendrobium and Polygonatum; colored cotton pigment formation mechanism. Professor Cai has undertaken over 40 researching projects, including NSFC, National innovation project of small and medium sized enterprises, Provincial scientific research, etc. Professor Cai gained 6 achievements of provincial scientific research; one time for China agriculture science and Technology Award by the Ministry of Agriculture; rewarded 4 times for the third prize from provincial science and technology progress; one time for the second prize from national teaching achievement, and 2 times for the second prize from provincial teaching achievement. Breeding new varieties of Chinese herbal medicine resources of 10 and 8 authorized patent. Professor Cai have been publishing over 60 thesis with the first or corresponding author in SCI and national key journals.
