Biography

 Robert W. Noth began his term as immediate past chair of the American National Standards Institute Board of Directors in January 2009. He previously held the position of chair of the Board from 2006-2008. Noth was vice-chair from 2003-2005 and served as chair of the International Policy Committee from 2002-2005; he has been an active member of the ANSI Company Member Forum since 1991. After 44 years of service, Mr. Noth recently retired as manager of engineering standards from Deere & Company. In this position, he was responsible for overseeing the development, deployment, utilization and administration of standards affecting the Deere product line worldwide. Mr. Noth’s duties required national and international interaction with standards developing organizations, trade associations, regulatory agencies, and other organizations whose activities affect Deere products. In addition to his ANSI activities, Mr. Noth remains active in the Association of Equipment Manufacturers where he is the immediate past chair of the Safety and Technical Council; SAE where he has served as chair of the SAE Technical Standards Board, the SAE Board of Directors and the Publishing Board; the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), and the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). He is the U.S. industry expert on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) on Management System Standards (MSS) and represents Deere & Company on the Industry Cooperation on Standards and Conformity Assessment (ICSCA) as well as the International Federation of Standards Users (IFAN). Mr. Noth is a graduate of the University of Dubuque with a B.A. in Mathematics. ANSI is a not-for-profit membership organization that brings together organizations from both the private and public sectors dedicated to furthering U.S. and international voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessments. ANSI accredits national standards developing organizations and approves American National Standards. It is the sole U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and, via the U.S. National Committee, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). ANSI is also a member of the International Accreditation Forum, the Pacific Area Standards Congress, and the Pan American Standards Commission.
