Biography
Allen S. Lichter, MD, FASCO, is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO. He has been an ASCO member since 1980 and served the Society in an array of volunteer positions before accepting the position of CEO in 2006. In 2002, he was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science. Dr. Lichter spent the major part of his career at the University of Michigan, first as Chair and Professor of Radiation Oncology from 1984-1998 and then as Dean of the Medical School from 1998- 2006. He was also named the first Isadore Lampe Professor of Radiation Oncology, an endowed chair at the University, and was honored as a Newman Family Professor of Radiation Oncology in 2000. Prior to his tenure at the University of Michigan, Dr. Lichter was the Director of the Radiation Therapy Section of the NCI’s Radiation Oncology Branch. Dr. Lichter’s research led to a Gold Medal from the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). In 2002 he was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science.
