Biography
Membership Director, is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Zhang’s main research interests include Chinese political culture, political culture and Cultural Studies, political discourse and discursive politics, methodology and epistemology of text analysis (hermeneutics, interpretive analysis, content analysis, and discourse analysis). In addition to multiple articles published in the American and Chinese academia, Dr. Zhang’s most recent book—Confucianism in Contemporary Chinese Politics: An Actionable Account of Authoritarian Political Culture—discusses “legitimating” and “engaging” values in the Confucian political cultural tradition and their influences in shaping up political institutions, discourse and action in today’s Chinese politics.
