Biography

hen Falai received his BSc, MSc and DSc in mathematics respectively in 1987, 1989 and 1994 from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Chen became an associate professor of USTC in 1995, full professor in 1998 and doctoral supervisor in 1999. Since 1994, Prof. Chen has worked as visiting scholar in Brigham Young University (USA), Rice University (USA), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong University, National University of Singapore, and University of Linz (Austria). Prof. Chen’s academic service includes Executive Member of the Chinese Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and deputy director of the Division of Geometric Design and Computing, Executive Member of the Society for Computational Mathematics, Secretary-General of Anhui Provincial Society of Mathematics, and the editorial members of Computer Aided Geometric Design, Visual Computer, Journal of Mathematics and Systems Science, Journal on Numerical Methods and Computer Applications, Numerical Mathematics: A Journal of Chinese Universities, and Journal of Computer-Aided Design & Computer Graphics. Prizes and honors that Prof. Chen has earned include two second prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award, the 2001 Award for Outstanding Young Teachers in University by the Ministry of Education, the 2002 National Outstanding Youth Foundation Award under the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the 2003 Special Prize of the Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award, the 2008 CAS Outstanding Supervisor Award, the 2009 Computer Graphics Achievement Award, the 2009 Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing, etc. Prof. Chen has also been selected into the list of recipients of the “National New Century Excellent Talents Program”.
