Biography
Chen Huaping, male, born in July 1965, currently works as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prof. Chen also serves as Executive Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology of USTC. Chen obtained his B.S. in Computer Science in 1987, M.S. in Computer Software in 1990, and Ph.D. in Computer Software in 1997 from USTC respectively. Prof. Chen had done research in his field as a visiting fellow at the University of Chicago, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the City University of Hong Kong. Prof. Chen is also a recipient of the “New Century Talents Supporting Program” Award of the Ministry of Education. Moreover, he is also serving as Person in Charge of the Hefei Grid Node of China National Grid, as well as Person in Charge of the Hefei Grid Node of the Computing Environment Platform of China National Grid. Prof. Chen’s research interests include network computing, high performance computing, as well as computational intelligence and its application. He has won the second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. In the national “Ninth Five-Year Plan” period, Prof. Chen has presided over the project of “Research and Development of the Client Integrated Environment for Dawn 3000” supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), with the research results being well applied and promoted. In his capacity as a technical leader, Prof. Chen has completed the research and development of the key project of “Anti-Disaster Intelligent Information and Decision Support System of Anhui Province” supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), which has earned him the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2001. In the national “Tenth Five-Year Plan” period, Prof. Chen has presided over the project of “Construction of Hefei Grid Node and Development of Some Typical Grid Applications” supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), and the grid application system developed by Chen has entered into sound applications. During the same period, he has also presided over one subproject under the project of the National Network Computing Environment Program as well as another subproject under the project of China's Next Generation Internet (CNGI). In recent years, Prof. Chen has published over 40 research papers in the field of network computing, high-performance computing, computational intelligence and its applications, etc. At present, Prof. Chen is presiding over one project supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), one project by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and one project supported by the Ph.D. Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education of China. Prof. Chen is also the Person in Charge of the Joint Research Fund for Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao Young Scientists of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. At the same time, Prof. Chen is also undertaking the subproject of “Optimization and Coordination of Distribution System and Its Risk Management” supported by the Foundation for Innovative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
