Biography
Soft Matter Group focuses on the dynamics and ordering kinetics of soft matter such as polymers and energy management materials induced by external fields, which are applied during processing or consuming. The aim of our research is to understand and manipulate the “processing-structure-properties” relationship of soft matter. With the advanced facilities such as scattering and spectra techniques based on synchrotron radiation, the structure evolution from molecular to millimeter scales can be traced under simplified processing conditions. Through research on model system, the group provides basic understandings and novel solutions to complex systems in energy management materials and polymer industries. The Group is headed by Prof. Liangbin Li, a former materials scientist at Unilever. Professor Li holds a position in the scheme of “One Hundred Talent Young Scientist” of Chinese Academy of Science, who authored more than 70 peer reviewed publications, four book chapters and filed four patents. NSRL is a fully operated synchrotron radiation lab in China, which is equipped with 15 different synchrotron beamlines with wavelength from 0.1 nm (hard x-ray) to 1 mm (far infrared). In addition to synchrotron facilities, NSRL has atomic force microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, e-beam and UV lithography and other material preparation and characterization instruments. USTC is one of the top three universities in China, and excellent in Physics, Chemistry, Nanomaterials and Polymers.
