Biography
Lin Qizhao, male, born in May 1958, a native of Fuyang, Anhui Province, currently works as a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Thermal Science & Energy Engineering, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). From March 1978 to December 1988, Lin studied at the Department of Power Engineering, Dalian University of Technology and obtained his B.S. in January 1982, his M.S. in December 1984, and his Ph.D. in December 1988 respectively. In the period between 2002 and 2003, Lin undertook his work as a senior visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Prof. Lin also serves as Secretary-General of the National Clean Energy Combustion Standardization Technical Committee (TC441), and Member of Editorial Board of the Journal of Combustion Science and Technology. Prof. Lin has been engaged in the teaching and research in the field of Combustion Science for long. He has done a lot of work in basic and applied research on flameless combustion and excess enthalpy combustion with substantial results having been scored. He proposed the concept of “Normal Temperature Air Flameless Combustion”, which simplified the conditions for flameless combustion and expanded its room for application. He was the first both at home and abroad to apply this kind of new flameless combustion technology to gas boilers, which has greatly boosted the thermal efficiency of boilers. He also proposed the coal gasification technology based on space reaction, which provided a new implementation approach for coal gasification. Prof. Lin carried out research on high temperature combustion of biomass based on flameless combustion and excess enthalpy combustion technologies, and applied flameless combustion technology to small and medium-sized combustion equipment, which has greatly enhanced equipment efficiency and performance. Besides, he adopted the concept of excess enthalpy combustion to study VAM oxidation and conversion. Prof. Lin has undertaken a number of research projects supported by the National Basic Research Program of China (also known as the “973” Program), the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (namely, the “863” Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the EU FP-6, etc. He has authored more than 100 research papers, of which over 30 were indexed by SCI/EI. Prof. Lin holds more than 20 inventions patents up to now. His research project of “Research and Application of New Flameless Combustion Technology in Coal-to-Gas and Industrial Gas Boilers” has won him the second prize of the Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Award in 2009.
Research Interest
Prof. Lin’s major research interests include: 1) mechanisms and implementation of flameless combustion with spatial heat release characteristics as well as their application in industrial furnace, heating furnace, coal gasification and other combustion equipment; 2) theoretical research on excess enthalpy combustion as well as the application of such concepts in the combustion of low-quality gas, liquid, solid fuel, etc.; and 3) research and exploration on micro-motors and low temperature SOFC.
