Biography

Prof. Wang obtained his Bachelor of Science in physics at Shandong University in 1988, and Ph.D in particle and nuclear physics at Shandong University in 1997. From July 1997 to January 2000, he was an associate professor at the Department of Physics, Shandong University. From February 2000 to May 2003, he was a Humboldt Fellow in the Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Frankfurt, Germany. From June 2003 and June 2005, he was a visiting professor in the GSI Virtual Institute, a joint research program between the Institute of Theoretical Physics of University of Frankfurt and the German National Laboratory for Heavy Ion Research. From 2004 to 2005, he visited a variety of internationally renowned institutions such as the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Institute for Nuclear Theory, University of Washington, the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, the Institute of Theoretical Physics of CEA Saclay. He was a senior research fellow (visiting professor) at Brookhaven National Lab in 2014. Since June 2005, Prof. Wang has been a professor at the Department of Modern Physics, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). Prof. Wang is an Academic Committee Member of Theoretical Physics Research Center for Science Facilities (TPRCSF) in 2007-2016. He was a committee member of the high energy physics branch of Chinese Physical Society in 2010-2014. He is a standing committee member of the high energy physics branch of Chinese Physical Society in 2014-2019. He is a member of Chinese Nuclear Physics Society in 2012-2016. Prof. Wang had been selected to the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) during 2007-2011. He has was awarded the Distinguished Young Scholars in 2012 by National Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Prof. Wang's research field is theoretical high energy nuclear physics. His research interest is in application of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in dense and hot matter, quantum field theory at finite temperature and density, phenomenology of heavy ion collision, non-equilibrium dynamics in strong interaction matter. He is also interested in the theory of low energy nuclear reaction. Prof. Wang's representative works are: (1) With collaborators,he has proposed the quantum kinetic theory for chiral anomalous fluid. They further derived a new equation, the Covariant Chiral Kinetic Equation (CCKE), and revealed its connection to the Berry phase. The CCKE will find its application in simulating the early space-time evolution of the hot and dense matter under the strong magnetic field in heavy ion collisions. (2) With collaborators,he has systematically calculated the shear and bulk viscosities of the quark gluon plasma in perturbative QCD with exact matrix element for the two-to-three-gluons process and with finite chemical potential. He has clarified contradicting and confusing results in the shear viscosity of a gluon plasma in the field.
