He has been working in the Institute of Soil Science since 1988, focusing on the soil ecology and pollution ecology. He had researched on the effect of the Three Gorges Project on soil swamping from 1988 to 2000, and studied on the bio-indication of environmental quality in the Tai lake area since 1999, concentrating on the accumulation of heavy metals, PAHs and PCBs in the food chains of the wetland ecosystems, and the effects of soil pollution on health of vegetables and soil ecosystems.
