Research Interest
Dr. Sun’s research interests are focused on the molecular and cellular mechanism of synaptic vesicle release. His laboratory uses an interdisciplinary approach with combination of biophysics and molecular biology to explore the mechanism that the presynaptic secretory machinery achieves the precise neurotransmitter release. He is particularly interested in 1). The molecular mechanism that determines the coupling between calcium channels and synaptic vesicles and how this spatial organization governs vesicle release probability, vesicle release kinetics and synaptic plasticity. 2). The signaling mechanisms that link different modes of synaptic transmitter release to neuronal coding.
