Biography
Dr. Xinhua PENG (born in 1972) is a soil physics professor in Institute of soil science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing, P.R. CHINA. He obtained bachelor degree in geography at Hunan Normal University in 1995, Master degree in soil science at Hunan Agricultural University in 2000, and PhD degree at Institute of Soil Science, CAS, in 2003. Thereafter, he started his postdoctoral position in Institute of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, Kiel University, Germany, as granted by Max-Planck fellow in 2004-2005 and by DFG research fellow in 2006-2007. During the 4-year postdoctoral research, he focused on dynamics of soil structure as a function of hydraulic and mechanical stresses. He developed a new model for soil shrinkage and built up a knowledge bridge between soil shrinkage and soil compaction.
