Yuanzhi Zhang

Biography

Prof. Yuanzhi Zhang, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and has been the director of the Yuen Yuen Satellite Remote Sensing Research Centre since December 2006. He was also appointed as the head of the Laboratory of Coastal Zone Studies at Shenzhen Research Institute of CUHK in November 2011. Prof. Zhang graduated from the Changchun College of Geology (now Jilin University) in 1986, received his Master of Science degree in Remote Sensing and Cartography from Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1991 and earned his Doctor of Science degree in Remote Sensing and GIS from Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), Finland in 2005. He worked as a research assistant at CAS from 1991 to 1996, a research scientist at HUT from 1998-2004, and a senior research scientist at HUT in Finland and at Sherbrooke University in Canada from 2005 to 2006 where he conducted research on remote sensing of water quality monitoring in coastal areas and inland lakes, snow water equivalent estimation in boreal forest areas, environmental and geological issues. In October 2006, he joined ISEIS and began developing research on cloud prone and rainy area remote sensing, focused particularly on land subsidence, oil spill detection, red tide monitoring, and coastal zone management in Hong Kong and its vicinity.
