Yu-fei Jiao

Biography

Yu-Fei Jiao received the B.S. degree in clinical medicine from Harbin Medical University, Harbin, China in 1985 and the M.S. degree in pathology from Graduate School of Harbin Medical University, Harbin, China, in 1990. Moreover, he obtained the Ph.D. degree in laboratory medicine and pathology from Graduate School of Kochi Medical School, Kochi, Japan, in 1999. Research Interest

Mechanisms of carcinogenesis and metastasis of the gastrointestinal cancer. Establishment of an enzymatic erythrocyte creatine assay to determine erythrocyte age and its clinical application. They established an enzymatic erythrocyte creatine assay, which is favorable for quantifying erythrocyte creatine, and has analytical characteristics suitable for routine work in clinical laboratories. Using this method, they investigated whether erythrocyte creatine can serve as a corrective index for HbA1c in patients with a shortened mean age of erythrocytes. Their study demonstrated that HbA1c decreased in inverse proportion to the increase in erythrocyte creatine because of a shortened mean age of erythrocytes, and that the abnormally decreased HbA1c value could be assessed with erythrocyte creatine. They also demonstrated that erythrocyte creatine can be used for predicting erythropoietic status and estimating hypersplenism in patients with liver cirrhosis.
