Biography

Xin Yang is an Associate Professor in the School of Electronic Information and Communications at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). Xin received her PhD degree in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Santa Barbara in March 2013. She worked under the supervision of Professor Kwang-Ting (Tim) Cheng. Dr. Yang worked as summer interns at fxpal in Palo Alto, CA in 2010 and 2012, as a lecture in UCSB in 2014 winter quarter and as a postdoctoral researcher in UCSB from 2013 to 2014. Dr. Yang’s research interest lies in mobile computer vision, mobile augmented reality (AR) and medical image analysis. Her earlier work designed computer vision and AR algorithms which can run in real-time on low power mobile devices, such as smartphones. More specifically, I focus on: 1) designing new light-weight and robust algorithms, 2) adapting existing algorithms to mobile CPU and/or GPU, for fundamental computer vision components, such as feature extraction, recognition and tracking, etc, 3) using mobile hetegeneous parallel computing, and 4) fusing multi-model sensor data (e.g. accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer). In the area of medical image analysis, Dr. Yang is especially interested in image segmentation and registration.
