Junchi Yan

Biography

Dr. Junchi Yan has been a Researcher, Staff Researcher, Research Staff Member and Senior Research Staff Member with IBM Research - China since 2011 working on machine learning and its applications, especially for sequential data. His research interests include machine learning and multimedia analysis, especially graph/image matching, stochastic point process, and weakly supervised deep learning. Dr. Yan holds dozens of granted US patents. He has also authored or coauthored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers on the related research topics including 10+ first-authored papers in TPAMI, TIP, TCYB, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, AAAI, IJCAI. He also serves as reviewer or PC member for JMLR, PR, NIPS, ACM-MM, IROS apart from the above venues, guest editor for Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications, EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, and organzier for IEEE BigMM 2017 Workshop on Cross-Platform Multimedia Big Search. He wins the CCF Doctoral Dissertation Award, ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award, ACM Shanghai Doctoral Dissertation Award, and IBM Research Division Award. He is a technical committee member of both Multimedia, and Computer Vision of China Computer Federation. He is also an IBM Master Inventor (2014-2017) and a comitte member on IBM patent review board. Dr. Yan earned his Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is a member of IEEE and a member of ACM. He serves as Associate Editor for IEEE ACCESS and serves as the industry liaison for ACM SIGMM China. He also works as a post-doc with ECNU from 2015-2017.
